The Benaki Museum, one of the best cultural destinations in Athens, hosts an impressive collection of Islamic art amassed by Antonis Benakis, born in Egypt in 1873. It is estimated at 400,000 artifacts, including 8,000 Islamic objects.
The collection covers a large band of geography, with exhibits from India, Asia Minor, Iraq, Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Sicily, Morocco, and Andalusia. It showcases an array of Islamic arts, including ceramics, metalwork, woodcarvings, glasswork, textiles, and manuscripts.
