Shangri-La Museum of Islamic Art in Hawaii has been the home of Doris Duke University of Arts since 1938, before turning into a museum in 2002 to host the artifacts that Duke collected through her travels in the Islamic world over 60 years.
The museum currently houses about 4,000 Islamic artifacts and architectural elements from Iran, Morocco, Turkey, Spain, Syria, Egypt and India, including gilt and painted ceilings, vivid ceramics, pierced metalwork, painted wooden interiors and vibrant textiles.
