Ibn Taymiyyah says of Takfir: “The words that render the person who spoke them a disbeliever may be because the texts have not reached him which clarify the truth, or he may have them but he does not consider them authentic, or he may not understand them, or he may have come across ambiguities that Allah will forgive. Whoever is a believer seeking the truth and errs, Allah will forgive him his error, whether they pertain to theoretical or practical issues. Such was the position of the companions of the Prophet (PBUH) and all of the imams of Islam.” (Majmoa Al-Fatawa, Vol. 12)
