The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned, in the strongest terms, the terrorist attack on a bus carrying Coptic Christians who were heading to a monastery in Minya province, south of Egypt. The attackers killed 24 innocent people and wounded dozens more, mostly children.
Secretary General Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen branded this ferocious act as cowardly, stressing that it will only strengthen Egyptians’ resolve as one nation against terrorism, which is a perversion of the magnanimous teachings of Islam and other religions and an assault on innocent civilians.
He also expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the victims as well as to the Egyptian government and people, offering his best wishes for fast recovery to the injured.
Further, the Secretary General said he is confident the Egyptian authorities will track down and bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous terrorist act, emphasizing that the OIC is fully committed, in its strong and principled position against terrorism, to supporting Egypt in its efforts to maintain security and stability and fight this scourge
