Sheikh al-Bashir al-Ibrahimi says concerning Islam’s philosophy toward war, and armed conflict, “War in Islam is only for those permitted to fight or prevented from da’wah or those who are ready to receive the da’wah are prevented from doing so. Islam regards war as a mafsadah not permitted except to repel a greater corruption. The first corruption for which war was legislated was to repel idol worship and to resolve the forceful prevention of the Islamic da’wah. If the Quraysh did not forcefully impede the course of the da’wah to Islam and left it to take its natural course, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) certainly would not have waged war against them. However, they opposed it with enmity and sought to prevent the da’wah reaching the Arabs, and sought all means to prevent its spread. Athar Imam Muhammad al-Bashir al-Ibrahimi (5/92)
