It is important to note that in Qur’an there is no concept of war of aggression and no concept of permissiveness of violence. Even where a permission of war has been granted, it is in the defense and protection of the rights of the oppressed and exploited, and not for any expansionist agenda.  There is no verse in the Qur’an permitting violence for the sake of territorial expansion or political dominance.  In fact, the expression of war has been attributed in the Qur’an  to fi sabil Allah or in the path of Allah. Thus, a war can be fought, if at all necessary, only in the way of Allah i.e. in the wake of oppression and for upholding justice, and not for any worldly desires or personal vengeance.
