The Institute of Islamic Studies at the University of Toronto in Canada published a literary magazine, "Islam in the City", to empower Muslim students to share their stories of what it means to be a Muslim in Toronto and strive to change stereotypes about Muslims.
Ingrid Mattson, a University of Waterloo graduate, was born to a Catholic family. In 1986, she befriended Muslims when she was a visiting student in Paris and embarked on a journey to study Islam upon hearing the recitation of the Quran.
