Official statistics issued by international organizations has revealed the frightening development of the Islamophobia phenomenon worldwide, especially in countries with Muslim minorities. The anti-Muslim attacks and sentiments have increased, and they pose an imminent threat to the lives of many members of these minorities.

The Sawt Al-Hikma Center, affiliated with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, recognizes the seriousness of this phenomenon and the necessity of an international action to address it. For this reason, they decided to launch a global campaign to collect electronic signatures to raise international public awareness and to ask the United Nations organization to adopt March 15 of each year as the International Solidarity Day Against Islamophobia.

The choice for this day (March 15, 2019) coincides with the memory of the brutal attack against two mosques in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand. The death of dozens of Muslims, while they performed their prayers, reminds us of the danger of spreading hatred and hostility towards Muslims and the horrific terrorist crimes that lead to losing innocent lives.

Accordingly, the Sawt Al-Hikma Center wrote a letter addressed to Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, based on the criminalization of Islamophobia in accordance with the provisions of (The United Nations Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination). Islamophobia is considered as a form racial discrimination and is a denial of the principles of the United Nations Charter. It is a violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms declared in the (Universal Declaration of Human Rights).

The Sawt Al-Hikma Center, affiliated with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, calls on Muslims and non-Muslims in all countries of the world to participate in signing this petition, and publishing it through the official hashtag of the campaign (#InternationalSolidarityDayAgainstIslamophobia). The purpose is to contribute to spreading awareness of the danger of the Islamophobia phenomenon at the international level and encourage all governmental and non-governmental institutions to combat it and prevent the causes leading to it.

The Sawt Al-Hikma Center hopes to collect the largest number of signatures possible, so that they can push the United Nations to respond and declare the first International Solidarity Day Against Islamophobia on March 15, 2021.
