Imam Muhammad bin Ali Shawkaani says: “Know that to accuse a Muslim of leaving the religion of Islam and entering into disbelief does not befit any Muslim who believes in Allah and the Last Day except with indisputable evidence clearer than the light of day. It has been established by authentic hadiths narrated by a group of companions that “whoever says to his brother, O faithless, one of them has lost his faith”. In another narration in Bukhari and Muslim and others, “If somebody accuses another of disbelief or calls him the enemy of Allah, such an accusation will revert to him (the accuser) if the accused is innocent.” These hadiths are a clear warning against being quick to accuse people of disbelief.
