In the late Umayyad rule, Al-Walid ibn Yazid relocated Cyprus Christians to Syria for fear of their alliance with the Romans. Although he did not do it to harm them, but to protect the state, the scholars and the general Muslims were angered for what they perceived was harm that befell the Christians due to being forced from their homes. When his successor Yazid ibn al-Walid assumed leadership, he returned them to Cyprus, which the Muslims considered the just course of action and praised him for his good qualities.
