A Bedouin once came to the Prophet (PBUH) seeking something for which the Prophet gave him. The Prophet then asked, “Did I do right by you?” to which the Bedouin said no. The Muslims became angry and advanced toward him. The Prophet indicated for them to stop. He then entered his house, and sent to the Bedouin something extra, and then said, “Did I do right by you?” to which he said: Yes, may God reward you and your family. The Prophet (PBUH) said to him, “You said what you said which left something in the hearts of my companions. If you wish, say to them what you just said to me, so that whatever is in their hearts towards you will be removed”. He said, yes, so the Prophet (PBUH) said, “This Bedouin said what he said so we gave him more for which he claimed to be satisfied, is that correct? The Bedouin said yes, may God reward you and your family. The Prophet (PBUH) then said, “The likes of me and this Bedouin is like a man who had a camel displace him, causing people to chase it which only irritated it more. The owner of the camel called the people, leave me and my camel for I am most kind to it and know it best. The camel owner approached the camel and took for it some dry grass and calmed it gradually until it submitted. He then saddled it. And if I was to let you advance on the Bedouin for what he said and you were to kill him, he would have entered the fire.” Narrated by al-Bazzar, and Haythami in Majma al-Zawa’id.
