Abu Haatim explained the meaning of compassion in religion saying, “The intelligent practices kindness and moderation because excesses are a defect, and falling short of what is required is a deficit. That which is not fixed with kindness is not fixed with violence. There is no evidence greater than kindness just as there is no precaution greater than the intellect. Kindness includes taking precautions, and precautions lead to safety. Abandoning kindness is a breach that could lead to destruction.” Rwawdah al-Uqala’ wa Nazhat al-Fudala’ of Muhammad Muhammad ibn Habban al-Basti.
