OIC Organizes Workshop in Niger on Protecting Youth from Radicalism

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank and the Islamic University of Niger is organizing a training workshop under the theme: “The role of education in preventing extremism and Radicalism “, January 29, 2018, in Niamey, Niger.

The workshop comes in response to the spread of the phenomenon of terrorism, extremism and radicalization in West Africa. It aims to develop appropriate mechanisms for the education of future generations to thwart the narrative of extremism and radicalism directed at youth by terrorist groups.

A wide range of Islamic scholars will participate in the workshop, which will also include a panel of university professors and directors of religious education institutions in West Africa.

The representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the delegate of the Islamic Development Bank and the president of the Islamic University in Niger will make their respective speeches at the opening session of the workshop. The workshop will continue for two days and will issue recommendations and mechanisms to combat extremism and radicalization in the Sahel region.
